Giveagain: Wrapping Gifts Sustainably and Supporting Local Communities

As the festive season approaches, many of us are reminded of the waste generated by single-use wrapping paper, often used once and discarded. This year, you can make a different choice—one that celebrates the joy of giving and supports both people and the planet. Meet Giveagain, a Perth-based small business revolutionising gift-giving with beautiful, reusable fabric wraps made from sustainable materials. Founded by Tallulah Chong, Giveagain tackles the environmental impact of gift-wrapping by providing a stylish, eco-friendly alternative that honours the principles of sustainability and social responsibility.
This November 17, Giveagain will be debuting at the Perth Upmarket, an exciting day for those looking to shop local and support small businesses in the lead-up to Christmas.

A Mission Born from Sustainability Studies

Tallulah Chong’s journey to creating Giveagain began during her postgraduate studies, where she explored sustainability and the circular economy. Shocked by the sheer volume of single-use wrapping paper discarded each holiday season—enough to wrap around the Earth four times annually, according to CARE Australia—Tallulah decided to take action. Most of this paper, she learned, is lined with plastic, rendering it non-recyclable and destined for landfill.
In 2023, with support from Murdoch University's Launchpad Academy, she transformed her idea into a reality. Giveagain’s first collection of reusable wraps launched in October, and with each product, Tallulah aims to reduce waste, raise awareness, and make sustainable gift-giving accessible for everyone.

Sustainable Design and Ethical Production

Giveagain’s reusable fabric wraps are crafted with sustainability at their core. Made from 100% cotton, the wraps are not only zero-waste but can be recycled or composted at the end of their lives. In collaboration with Urvara Sustainable Fashion Sourcing, an organisation with deep knowledge of circular textiles, Giveagain ensures that each wrap is ethically produced with transparency and communication at every step. By using deadstock fabrics—surplus textiles that would otherwise be discarded—Giveagain reduces waste even further.
While manufacturing overseas allows Giveagain to provide a cost-efficient product, it also helps to reduce transport emissions, as Australia does not produce its own cotton fabrics. Each collection features unique designs by local artists, bringing a piece of Perth’s creative spirit to every wrap. The process from design to production takes about three months, with each new collection offering a fresh take on sustainable style.

Making a Positive Impact Beyond Wrapping

Giveagain’s commitment to sustainability goes beyond the environmental benefits of its products. The business also donates 20% of its profits to local charities, reinforcing a focus on community impact. Recently, Giveagain announced an exciting new partnership with Multicultural Services Centre WA (MSC WA). Through MSC WA’s Healing Stitches program, Giveagain’s offcut materials are repurposed into new products, creating employment and educational opportunities for migrants and refugees in Western Australia.
Supported by Australia Post, this partnership embodies Giveagain’s zero-waste philosophy and provides tangible benefits to culturally and linguistically diverse communities. “We’re thrilled to support MSC WA and to be part of a program that gives back in such a meaningful way,” Tallulah says. “By transforming offcuts into new products, we’re creating shared value that aligns perfectly with our mission.”

Overcoming Challenges and Building a Future
As a solo founder, Tallulah has faced her share of challenges in getting Giveagain off the ground. Balancing her time between running the business, working part-time in social innovation, and freelancing as a photographer, she has had to learn many new skills to turn her vision into reality. “The support from Perth’s entrepreneurship and sustainability community has been invaluable,” she notes. “Without them, launching Giveagain would have been much harder.”
Looking ahead, Tallulah has big plans for Giveagain. Her primary goal is to make reusable wraps a mainstream choice for gift-giving, hoping to change consumer habits to support a greener future. She plans to collaborate with more artists to keep the designs dynamic and exciting, making it easy and appealing for customers to embrace sustainable alternatives.
