Making a Difference, One Cup at a Time.

The team at Perth Upmarket are passionate about doing our bit to help the environment. With this core value at our forefront, we have partnered with Go2Cup to provide sustainable alternatives to single-use plastics at every market.

We kicked off this initiative at our May market and were pleased with the enthusiastic embracing of this alternative by our food and beverage vendors, as well as the general public.

When customers purchased items from our vendors, they were provided with a reusable cup, plate, bowl, and even gelato cups!

Upon finishing their food and drinks, customers simply returned their Go2Cup products to the collection station. All products from Go2Cup were then returned to their warehouse, where they were washed ready for reuse.

We were ecstatic to see over 50% reduction in bin waste compared to our previous market! Imagine the impact we can make when we reduce this waste across all our events?!

So, what exactly is the ethos behind Go2Cup, and how did it get started? Read on to hear all about the Go2Cup founder, Daniel Grosso, and his vision for a cleaner world.

It all began with a simple idea, as most good businesses do. What if they could reduce the amount of single-use items ending up in landfill by making reusables EASIER?

People generally want to ‘do the right thing’ when it comes to being environmentally conscious. However, alternatives are often impractical. The logistics of carrying your own serving ware to events, let alone finding a place to wash them, makes it less appealing to find an alternative to that plastic plate or cup.

Go2Cup recognised this and developed a user-friendly alternative. By providing events with reusable serving ware, that is then taken away for cleaning, they have made the entire process of reusables easy.

“Go2Cup are a small family business in Perth WA with an uncompromised passion for replacing single use with reusables to minimise impact and work towards an innovative circular economy. We believe that instead of sending copious amounts of waste to landfill, it is better to employ local people and maximise the use of our resources.”
“Having worked on the front line of Western Australia’s resource industry as a mining engineer, Daniel has an appreciation for the need to use our resources mindfully as well as in unity with the environment in which we extract them from.
Daniel has a vision that Australia can move away from being one of the biggest waste per capita producers in the world led by a resource industry, towards being a sustainable country led by innovation.”
So next time you’re at a Perth Upmarket event, make sure you take advantage of the Go2Cup serving ware on offer. The collection point and bins are clearly marked, just pop your item in when you’ve finished with it!

As the Go2Cup team say, the best way to reduce waste is to not create it in the first place!
